It is a great sign of recognition and appreciation that the Douro Boys were invited to present their wines at the most important event on the Asian restaurant calendar. Once again, this highlights the pioneering roles that these five families have performed in the world of Portuguese wine. Wines from the Douro Valley have become an imposing presence in the world’s fine dining scene in recent years – no wine list in the world’s top restaurants would be imaginable without them. ‘Since our founding in 2003, we have not only invested a great deal of time and energy in improving the quality of our wines, but also in making the incomparable Douro Valley better known around the world. It’s so nice to see that our efforts have paid off’, says Cristiano van Zeller from Quinta Vale D. Maria.
What makes the Douro Valley so unique? On the one hand, it is the people who love this region, who nurture and care for it on a daily basis. On the other hand, it is the unique interplay of breathtaking scenery and magnificent vineyards that creates the potential for vinifying highly praised wines. To give the top-ranked chefs “1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners“ the opportunity to learn more about the Douro Valley and its marvellous wines, after the award ceremony the Douro Boys officially invited them for a visit to the Douro.
